We spend so much time trying to be an expert on a subject that we have set aside many other interests. Let’s think about it. I know time is a precious currency for everyone, but investing time and energy in totally different passions and talents is actually good for us. We have a chance to learn new things, get to know new people, innovate and have fun.
In this amazing book, the author says that the main theme of his biographies is his ability to make connections between different disciplines, such as da Vinci, who related the arts, science, humanities, and technology. Walter considers this skill the key to innovation, imagination, and genius. It made me wonder how many times we ended up pruning our passions, losing ourselves, and slowly killing our creativity, which is what makes us unique.
In a way, building our academic and professional life, we tend to focus all our energy and time on one subject, one interest and let go of our true interest and passions. Those topics that we truly enjoy researching, learning more. Sometimes it is necessary to stop and reflect on what really interests us, and it is all if we have interests in various areas, you can enjoy studying psychology and want to learn to play the piano, study medicine and like fashion, work as a teacher and to be interested in dance, and how da Vinci to be interested in painting, math, architecture, and anatomy and that’s great.
The sum of our experiences, our interests, our passions makes us unique and makes us (so much) more interesting beings. So shake it up, expand your universe.
